Third grade is an exciting year of learning. There are many "firsts" including, but certainly not limited to, standardized test taking and unit tests in the content areas. Students build upon skills acquired in previous years and learn new ways to communicate; they create slideshow projects, write multi-paragraph essays, and deliver oral presentations. Technology is utilized both in and out of school. Students begin to master essential foundational work in math, such as multiplication and division while expanding their knowledge in addition and subtraction. Guided reading, literature circles, readers' workshop, and cross-curricular learning are some of the ways students learn to become better thinkers. With all these challenges, a positive, can-do attitude, the desire to learn, and the willingness to make mistakes are important steps in the learning process.
Third grade can be very challenging at times and parents don't always know how to help, so this website, which is a constant work-in-progress, was created to assist families by keeping open the lines of communication and making information readily available.
